You may not even know of its existence, there are no signs or entrance fees, but the Enduimet WMA is a quiet success story in protecting the wildlife corridors of West Kilimanjaro, including the Kitenden Corridor, an elephant “highway” that stretches all the way to Kenya.
Founded in 2003 with nine villages, and nestled in the heart of the West Kilimanjaro Basin, the Enduimet Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in the Longido Conservation Area is still a hidden gem for safari tourists. The Enduimet WMA is less crowded compared to other national parks in Tanzania and allows guests to enjoy a quieter and more intimate experience with nature.
Enduimet WMA is an example of a community-based nature reserve where Maasai herders benefit from tourism and conservation initiatives. The area is managed by local communities, with a significant portion of the revenue going directly to support the Maasai communities. In doing so, you support sustainable and fair tourism that promotes the protection of the environment and the local population.
